john w. golden’s digital illustrations

look at these vintage-inspired, peaceful feeling prints from north carolina artist john w. golden.

john_golden_hello

john began his career as a professional artist at the ripe young age of 12. he earned his degree in graphic design at appalachian state university.

right now, at this moment, these multi-layered digital collages remind me of the music of poi dog pondering.

john_golden_scooter

but wait — i also like his bold, retro-modern prints, which totally don’t remind me of poi dog.

find john’s work in his family’s gallery in wilmington.

naomi_kobayashi_3

although she shares the same name as the famed textile artist, i do not believe they are the same person (and i certainly hope someone will correct me if i am wrong).

an optimistic ashtray from industreal

i have no idea why i am drawn to ashtrays — i don’t smoke (and am not advocating it!), but i like this little porcelain one from by nadia biavaschi and alessandro camilli at industreal design.

industreal_ashtray_1

industreal_ashtray_2industreal_ashtray_3

it is encouraging, you know, for an ashtray.

bonus: because of it’s donutty appearance, it might just make a nice reminder for calorie watchers too.
