farm 21 straw screen

i have a friend with a curvy kohler bathtub who cannot bring herself to put a shower curtain around it for fear of hiding its sculptural lines. this screen from the uk’s farm21 just might change her mind. it has three sections, and is made from laminated rye straw and acrylic.
sasha sykes, the company’s founder, had a desire to bring contemporary furnishings with a rural flavor to fill an underserved niche in the market. most of the organic materials found in the collection come from her family’s farm in county carlow, ireland.
simply gorgeous.
find it and many other lovely pieces at their website.

When I saw the photo at first, I didn’t realize that those crops are on a curtain – or some sort of flat, vertical background.
What are they on? How does this room divider stand up?

hi aakash,
yes, you are right, since the photo is cropped it could be a curtain, but it isn’t!
it looks to me that she is taking the dried grasses and sandwiching them between two sheets of clear plexiglass, sealing them together, and then hinging them to each other, to create a 3 panel room divider or partition.
usually room dividers are not see-through, so this design is really quite clever!
thanks for your comment!
