this is going around the intertube but i don’t care, i must write about it. i love this awesome crochet work from new york graphic designer and crafter extraordinaire nicole gastonguay. this is yarn freestyling at its best people – nicole doesn’t use patterns for her creations!
i love the cannoli and the shape of the mashed potatoes.
see her flickr stream for more neatly finished hilarity.

These are really fun. It’s amazing what people are coming up with these days. I think amigurumi is my favorite crochet expression. Hmmm…literally and figuratively. 😉

hi bri,
amigurumi is fun isn’t it? but i thought you needed a pattern to follow it, and nicole doesn’t use them. hmmm, maybe i am wrong about that?
regardless, the cuteness abounds! and watch out for what may fly off my fingertips later in the year (hee)!
thanks for the visit!

Hi Gigi, Amigurumi just means knitted or crocheted “doll”. So, like hats or sweaters, you could use a pattern, or just make stuff up. The patterns are really quite a bit like recipes in cooking. You can follow it to the letter, make changes along the way, or throw it out altogether and let your own creative genius flow.
Okay, I’m watchin’ for what may fly off your fingertips. It’s such a blast. Following patterns (since I haven’t been crocheting long, I’ve made octopi, turtles, owls, a mouse, a Totoro and a dolphin. You could totally do it. 🙂
