august is a good time to admire sea-inspired sculpture for the home…

an art glass octopus

silver starfish

bronze and abalone lobster

24k gilded shell
if you placed one of these silver or gold guys into a bowl with all your other shells, would it be your new favorite?
maybe i’m the only one who keeps bowls of shells around…

bainbridge island, washington serves as major inspiration for gregg mesmer’s and diane bonciolini’s sleek glass dishware.

multiple steps go into the creation of mesolini glass, including hand rolling, pouring into ceramic molds and kiln firing. each glistening piece has their signature cutoff edge, due in part to the distinctively craggy nature of the material. it’s also a very convenient place for dinner party plate passing and holding.

perhaps even more beautiful than their functional pieces are their public art works. check out this fantastic 10 x 10′ beach glass quilt. the beach glass collected for this project was donated by many supportive local residents. isn’t that neighborly?

this substantial, 312 square foot mural map of the island was commissioned by the local rotary club, for placement at their gateway park. it’s composed of concrete and more than 30,000 pieces of recycled glass.

their pieces make terrific wedding gifts. for info on how to purchase, and to view their many other items, click here.
