create beauty instead of trash every month with this plantable seed desk calendar. seeds are cleverly embedded into the pages of the calendar. when the month changes, simply plant the previous month’s 5″ x 5″ page in a thin layer of soil, place in a sunny spot and watch it germinate! soon you will have coreopsis, clarkia, poppies and other traditional summer wildflowers. the handmade paper is made from recycled bond, renewable abaca and cotton remnants and is acid-free. it comes in a reuseable tin and is whimsically illustrated by canadian artist kal barteski.

this is a great way to do a good deed for the earth, and a fun way to teach a child about plants, recycling and being eco-friendly!
purchase the calendar and other items in the collection from botanical paperworks. it’s also available at the olive barn.

when i was a kid (do i sound like an old lady?) i enjoyed the anticipation of christmas as much as the holiday itself. having all those little doors to open on a festively colored advent calendar tacked to the window or wall was a wonderful tradition in my house, and is something i associate with the spirit of the season, good will, and the warmth of moments spent with friends and family; in other words, the essence of the holiday. please enjoy this selection of traditional, contemporary and just plain creative interpretations of this annual holiday item.

i love this calendar from spanish designer noa bembibre, and i don’t care that it’s from last year. noa’s goal is to provoke, confuse, and delight us in our daily lives every month.

noa got a degree in fine arts from the university of the basque country, and another in applied art and design from the university of art and design in helsinki, where she currently lives and works as a graphic designer.
i think i like march best.
wouldn’t you love one of these for every year?
