I mentioned Maramiki recently but I so enjoy Mara Snipes’ designs that I must write about them again. She’s just launched her new website for her beautiful textile designs for the home. I especially love the 2009 calendars with teal and purple inks printed on her crisp high quality linen that she’s added to her collection.

I wish I didn’t have tumbling tumbleweeds of dog hair flying around this place, I would be up to my ears in these gorgeous linens.

See more at the Maramiki website.

yet another reason why i think embroidery will take over the world: the beautiful, masterful textile creations of uk designer becky howson. becky uses several different creative methods to create her collection. she starts with sketches or paintings and photographs of everyday things. then, depending of what type of designs spring forth, the pieces are finished with applique, computer aided design, screenprinting and hand or machine embroidery. the results are filled with feminine detail and imaginative, whimsical energy.

look at these handmade works crafted by german artist sandra monat. sandra’s portfolio is filled with witty and wonderfully detailed creations, made primarily of felt and cotton. it’s clear that everything here is made with the special ingredient (love, or do i even need to mention it?).

sandra aptly calls her dolls art toys, since admiring and collecting them isn’t exclusive to kids. her talents aren’t limited to vikings either - look too at her collections of embroidered dream guardians and birds, gently placed in quietly powerful scenes:

lots and lots of good energy flowing here.

please don’t paintball my pillow — it’s recycled fur!

look at these opulent pillows and throws from canadian designers sarah gee and lindsay brown for their company ouno design. they use the highest quality vintage fabrics and used fur coats to create their simple, luxurious collection, inspired in part by scandanavian and japanese design. they are strong believers in sustainable design and repurposing materials. this upcycled collection is a perfect example.

her cloth is a map of the world, map of the world

okay, okay — one more textile post and i’ll give it a rest — but you see how it is with the blogging — you put what you like, right? i just need to mention these awesome maps that are made of cloth, from german designer dewa bleisinger. the easymap’s material is a multipurpose workhorse: it resists the damage, illegibility and aggravation of a folded map, while remaining weatherproof and extending its life span.

roll, crumple or fold it like a towel. stick it in your pocket or wear it as a scarf — however you work it, it’ll still be intact at the end of the day.

this piece will be presented at the tendence lifestyle fair in frankfurt august 24 - 28.

see dewa’s website for other excitement.
