now we can make a strong individual statement about our personal style not only through our choices in music but the way we listen with this gorgeous speaker collection from danish company scandyna. the curvy collection includes the drop, micropod and minipod styles, whose funky organic shapes and poppy colors appeal tremendously to me (and i especially enjoy the drop shape).

this is a company that’s been around for 40 years striving to create the highest quality audio equipment possible. clearly (and lucky for us!), modern clean design is a priority for them too.
available at the conran shop, decibel and audio vision sf.

these stainless steel fruit and candy bowls from denmark’s philippi design remind me of a fabulous 1950’s mod spaceship that i would like to fly in, jetsons style.

founded by jan philippi in 1992, the philosophy behind this design house focuses on clear, modern simplicity. the contemporary point of view comes through consistently in all their pieces.

i even like the salt and pepper orbs and the, er, sugar pill bowl.

okay, cuckoo crazy for these pieces from danish sisters en gry and sif. they’ve got knitted, felted and even some hemp personal and home items. they feature high quality materials, including 100% pure new zealand wool.

after taking a trip around the world together, the two women decided to quit their respective jobs and create their company, which produces many of their fresh and modern accessories in nepal.

i love how soft and squeezy it all is.
see their website here, find it at danish bohemia or loop.

ah, for a seafaring life in scandinavia… well, maybe not. but these danish mobiles might help you visualize it.

flensted mobiles is a small, multi-generational family company that’s been making modern mobiles since 1954. hopefully they will make them for another 50 years.

danish artist peter callesen creates art and sculpture by making small cuts in plain white paper. this medium gives the work a fragility, which is harmonious with their underlying themes.

he focuses on the reinterpretation of childhood memories and classic romantic fairy tales, and is interested in the relationship between two and three dimensionality.

he considers his pieces to be a combination of dream and reality. when captured somewhere in between, they become living, bittersweet things.

he calls the metamorphosis of a flat piece of paper into a three dimensional form “obvious” magic, because the process is straightforward, and the figures remain attached to their origins, with no possibility of escape.

in that sense, there is also an aspect of something tragic in most of the cuts.

peter also creates large scale sculpture, like this floating polystyrene castle.

his poetic and intriguing work can be interpreted in myriad ways, by children and adults alike.
peter will be exhibiting in copenhagen later this year.
