italian graphic artist guido crepax had sweeping influence over the european comic art community, and even though he passed away in 2003, his memory continues to be honored in the form of these fantastic furniture pieces. the collection features valentina, his most famous 1960’s heroine in a comic series, physically modeled after silent film star louise brooks.

the furniture collection is crafted from polished mdf and aluminum, and sealed with lacquer. although the pieces are linear and orderly, they’re more relaxed too, due to guido’s signature breezy, dreamy eroticism. he also tucked homages to his modern art contemporaries into his work, including rene magritte, man ray and roy lichtenstein.
furniture available at moss.

these clay pieces from illinois artist jennifer bennett walker intrigue me. there is something about them that reminds me of an unfinished thought, or someone finishing another person’s thought. she handbuilds her one of a kind pieces from earthenware and uses underglazes and glazes. she has a bfa from ohio university in graphic design, with a photography and printmaking emphasis.

jennifer is inspired by nature, its textures and the world around her. she digs deeply in nature to see intention. her organic observations manifest themselves in the form of handcrafted pieces that burst with latent possibility and unique characteristics of form and color. she strives to create works that are the antithesis of the banal or expected.

every year in texas, a free international exhibition and celebration of photography takes place called fotoseptiembre. there are two ways to view the exhibits: online, in the safoto galleries (which change twice a year); or in person, if you are lucky enough to live in (or visit) san antonio. texas photographer rebecca dietz is one of exhibitors in the lone star state this year. her entrancing sepia-toned photograph collection, entitled souvenirs, will take you to an isolated, dream-like place that you thought was only in your imagination. here’s a small sampling:

rebecca has a bfa in printmaking and an mfa in photography from the university of delaware.
you must go see her other fabulous photographs on her website.
her opening for the photography exhibition takes place on september 12th at c art studio.
she currently has an exhibition through september 9th at the delaware center for the contemporary arts (hurry!).

look at these intriguing mixed media collages from ohio artist jennifer kerr.

jennifer started taking art classes when she was a young girl.

she has a degree in art therapy.

jennifer enjoys regular escapes from the “real” world to find inspiration for her art.

the backgrounds of her pieces are textured with modeling paste and several layers of acrylic paint.

i love the ethereal quality and hopeful imagery in her work.
read more info and purchase jennifer’s work here.
