eco-cool furniture by iannone design

Ooh liking this halftone coffee table from the creative minds of Iannone Design for myriad reasons. For one, it’s made of ecofriendly formaldehyde-free bamboo plywood. For two, that’s no veneer or screenprint on the surface of the table. That’s inlaid wood, your choice of maple (on natural bamboo) or walnut (on amber bamboo) to be exact. For three, you can choose a square or rectangle shape in two different heights to fit your room. And for four, they’ve finished the piece with waterbased shellac and a low VOC topcoat. Ahhhhh.

I think their (sustainable) walnut and (renewable) cork mosaic sideboard is pretty boffo too, for equally grand reasons.

Thoughtful and clever, the whole package.

Hop on over to Plushpod to see the table and much more. See Iannone for more cool furniture too.

aqua expeditions: green cruising luxury

i’m not really one for cruise ships, although i would make an exception for the inside passage of alaska, because i think you see things from the boat perspective that you cannot see on land. i am making another exception now that i have seen this gorgeous m/v aqua ship from aqua expeditions that goes along the amazon river in peru and into the pacaya samiria reserve. wowee wee woo woo it looks like it might be the trip of a lifetime! the ship has just 12 spacious cabins, designed by jordi puig, with outward facing windows and sitting areas. there is a beautiful dining room with menus designed by pedro miguel schiaffino, an observation deck and indoor and outdoor lounges for relaxing too. the crew of 17 includes 3 naturalist guides to point out the most interesting things both on and off the ship — there are chic aluminum skiffs that are taken into the jungle waterways for more intimate touring.

in addition to all this decadence, the company realizes the fragile ecosystems throughout the area, and is dedicated to being eco-conscious too. river water is treated on board so that it is fit for human consumption. waste water is too so that it can be purified and then released into the river. low-emission, fuel-efficient engines are found on board the main ship as well as the launch/life boats.

can you even imagine the wondrous things you would see there? get more info and book your trip right here.

i am quite smitten by the gorgeous twig stool and bench from english furniture maker russell pinch. it’s made from the offshoots or stems from the stumps of hazel or sweet chestnut trees from a local forest, in a technique called coppicing.

jardin chair from crate and barrel

hear me now and believe me later: my dream house would be nestled in the midst of abundant trees, have multiple outdoor spaces and 360 degree views of nature, be made of wood, slate, metal and glass, and have this jardin chair from crate and barrel somewhere inside of it. the painterly fabric was inspired by an original artist’s pastel drawing and reinterpreted into a lushly textured vintage style landscape, and the curvy feet and wings just enhance the effect.

this chair is not just good looking either; it’s eco-friendly. look under the hood and you’ll find a sustainable kiln-dried hardwood frame and a cushion and back made from multiple layers of soy or plant-based polyfoam. all these things contribute to a wholly (feel) good experience.

$799 right here.

reusable produce bags

i loathe the idea of having to use those plastic bags for all your different fruits and vegetables, and whenever possible, just place these items loose in my shopping cart. sometimes you just can’t do that though, especially during the bounty of the summer eating season! now is the precise time to use these earth-friendly produce bags.

ecobags_1

they’re made of durable, washable organic cotton and are generously sized (the top photo shows ten bags of apples!), and are priced at $14 for a set of 4 pieces — two large bags and two smaller perforated ones.

purchase them at delight.
