michele muennig prints and paintings

i am going a little nuts today staring at the beautiful mixed media pieces, monoprints and paintings of california artist (and fellow tulane alum) michele muennig. these works move me with their moody color palettes and symbolic imagery. there is a mystical energy about them and the unfolding, haunting narrative themes evoke ideas of fairy tales, or the nightmares within them. the longer i look at michele’s work, the blurrier the line between dreaming and being awake becomes.

what a powerful, successful collection.
you can find more info about michele and see more engrossing works on her website.

reader hilary pointed me towards the powerful, engrossing work of san francisco artist sarah spitler. sarah relates her work, crafted from ink, acrylic, graphite, enamel and other media, to geographical forms and the chance combinations that come together to create such entities. she is also mindful of chaos and the ephemera that is created and affected by it. i don’t think i need to urge you to look at the details of these pieces; they speak for themselves.

there are extraordinary delicate and intense details, explosions of color and feathery lines and bulges and drips that lead my eye down and around and in, and lead my mind to otherworldly places.
we don’t need permission to fall in.
see more and contact sarah on her website, and also find select works at the beholder.

yep, it’s been all over the design blogs already, but uk designers (and husband and wife) collaborators frances and dominic bromley’s lighting collection for their scabetti design company, organic and softly glowing from hundreds of individual slip cast bone china pieces, still remains magnificent.

look at these beautiful colored pencil works by australian artist lilly piri. they are soft and gorgeous, surreal and familiar. some of the people in these victorian feeling floaty portraits can’t even look you in the eye.

lilly has a show coming up at the thinkspace gallery in los angeles from december 7th - december 23rd. you can purchase her original works on her website, and prints at thumbtack press. oh - and she writes a nifty blog too!

every year in texas, a free international exhibition and celebration of photography takes place called fotoseptiembre. there are two ways to view the exhibits: online, in the safoto galleries (which change twice a year); or in person, if you are lucky enough to live in (or visit) san antonio. texas photographer rebecca dietz is one of exhibitors in the lone star state this year. her entrancing sepia-toned photograph collection, entitled souvenirs, will take you to an isolated, dream-like place that you thought was only in your imagination. here’s a small sampling:

rebecca has a bfa in printmaking and an mfa in photography from the university of delaware.
you must go see her other fabulous photographs on her website.
her opening for the photography exhibition takes place on september 12th at c art studio.
she currently has an exhibition through september 9th at the delaware center for the contemporary arts (hurry!).
