wow, look at these innovative angled cornerframes from yvonne schroeder for the german company details. these would be great for dead corners or spots in homes where mechanicals have been hidden behind drywall.

find them in natural maple or beech black finishes, and choose from inside or outside corner styles through the details website. dimensions for the inside frame are 29.5 x 29.5 x 3.2 cm, height 40 cm (about 11″ x 11″ x 1.3″, 16″ tall); outside are 26 x 15.5 x 3.2 cm, height 33 cm (about 10.5″ x 6″ x 1.3″, 13″ tall) they also make custom sizes.
don’t lose your mind when you see how much the ones in production are, though (198 € for inside and 224 € for outside).

look at this kick a$$ lamp from benoit collette and david wykes for industrial design firm teague out of seattle. with a client roster like microsoft, panasonic and boeing, you might think they don’t have the time to do small jobs, but this lamp is an excellent exception. it starts out flat and like a cat stretches its sinewy form into a led studded task lamp.

apparently, teague is currently seeking a manufacturing partner to produce this elegant and minimal lamp. after looking at these photos, don’t you think they’ll find one soon?
see more about the paper clip lamp here, and more impressive work from teague here.

please enjoy these forward ceramic pieces and interactive mixed media installations by dynamic french designer sam baron. sam enjoys working in clay (although is not limited to it) because it’s a very human material that offers lots of creative possibilities and dimension.

sam studied at the ecole des beaux-arts in saint etienne, and later at the ecole nationale des arts décoratifs in paris. not simply an artist, he is also a freelance designer for companies like baccarat, debeers and ligne roset. his objects can be found in the cooper hewitt museum and mudam collections.

sam is currently design director for fabrica, an experimental art collective which is funded by benetton and based in italy. the installations blur the line between the world of art and the world of commercialism, and encourage thought and discourse. they are showcased in their network of commercial and cultural spaces, located in bologna, montecatini, lisbon, hong kong and istanbul.
fabrica’s latest idea is you are here, a traveling art exhibition/retail shop featuring a selection of ceramics, stationery and bags, designed for an creative-minded audience. this show is currently at beyond the valley in london.

see sam’s blog for more photos and info, and be sure to contact him if you know of a shop or gallery in the us or canada that would be interested in the traveling shop!

okay, okay — one more textile post and i’ll give it a rest — but you see how it is with the blogging — you put what you like, right? i just need to mention these awesome maps that are made of cloth, from german designer dewa bleisinger. the easymap’s material is a multipurpose workhorse: it resists the damage, illegibility and aggravation of a folded map, while remaining weatherproof and extending its life span.
roll, crumple or fold it like a towel. stick it in your pocket or wear it as a scarf — however you work it, it’ll still be intact at the end of the day.
this piece will be presented at the tendence lifestyle fair in frankfurt august 24 - 28.
see dewa’s website for other excitement.

this war bowl by now-defunct british team of mosley meets wilcox is a cool art piece and a great example of their humorous-yet-edgy design style.

since the duo’s 2005 split, dominic has carried that innovative aesthetic through to other work. check out his notes tattoo.

in may of this year, the editors at i.d. magazine asked him to participate with 5 other designers in creating a room for losing one’s virginity. dominic’s ideas were so prolific that he decided to create a building instead.

among the many rooms in the building are the “cherry tank” room and the “swinging from the chandeliers” room.
in a word, hilarious.
find the war bowl at generate.
see the i.d. magazine slide show here.

lisa solomon is a california artist who comes from a long line of crafters. she creates imaginative drawings from a bevy of mixed media, including thread, wire, charcoal, watercolor, ink, satin, felt, and the wall, as well as paper and canvas.

her fabulous work is frequently inspired by childhood themes, found objects and the differences in masculine and feminine attributes.

lisa enjoys pairing unrelated things, to create unexpected new meaning from their traditional contexts. her themes mirror her results: harmonious, remarkably tactile pieces, borne of delicate, and sometimes nostalgic, material.

she is currently on exhibit in japan.

view more of lisa’s work here or there. purchase drawings, et. al., here.

spooky. witty. utterly ingenius. phil toledano believes that a photograph should be like an unfinished sentence. in his clever pursuit of this, he has amassed a portfolio of original photography that simply dazzles.

i can’t decide which group of photos i like the best. i think my favorite is video gamers.

or maybe marks?

each photograph (and the stories they collectively tell) is just so thorough, and engrossing. the viewer just might burst with thought-provoking joy of discovery.
a lover of photography since he was a child has only been disrupted by a decade-long career in art direction. i suspect that he was at the top of his field when he was doing this.
he was born in london and currently resides in new york. check out his collection here. some limited edition works can be purchased online at gild.
