UPDATE: hurrah! brigette has loaded her shop up with many more fun prints and some original works too!

right now there is only one print available in los angeles artist brigette barrager’s etsy shop, which shows us a kinder, gentler scene of urban living i wish i could jump into for a little while. actually i can and i do, now that i have found it! among other things, i’m enjoying brigette’s cats and lace curtains in the windows, her lighthearted stylings and soft color combinations in this piece, created from her original gouache painting.

while we wait and hope to see more of brigette’s whimsical prints soon in her shop, let’s say hi to her on her blog and view her portfolio here.

more striking ceramics from london-born, los angeles based ceramic artist hannah morrow. these pieces are made of bone china. the stickers collection is a tribute to ceramic souvenirs while the unadorned hedy collection simply celebrates purity of form.

those simple shapes are very inviting and would definitely encourage me to linger over a meal…
see more and purchase it all on hannah’s website.

check out these very humorous illustrations and graphic text greeting cards from the creative los angeles stationer called fomato. the creative force behind these whimsical illustrations and witty stories woven into the sentiments prefers to remain anonymous, but that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy these cards, many in three or four panel versions, and little badges too! (ed. note: sorry if the bigger cards are tough to read - hopefully you can see some of the stories in the close ups…)

i love the style and the bold colors. for me though the intriguing (and hilarious) stories on the longer cards are the hook. i would love to see a print series or a continuing serial of some kind with these wacky characters, since they make me smile so much.
see the full complement on the fomato website. they’ll have an online shop sometime this fall, but in the meantime you can purchase these terrific cards at black ink (boston), zipper (los angeles), magma (london), hazel or paper doll (chicago) and posman books (new york).

i am extremely fond of the work of prolific california artist dan goodsell and his food themed motley crew of characters that have sprung from his fount of imagination. this happy roving gang features the irrepressible mr. toast and his homies, like shaky bacon, lemonhead and joe the egg. they join each other and support each other as friends do, together at milestone moments or just chilling out.

warning! love fest: i love his sense of humor and the super smiley color palette. the simplicity of his drawings evokes a lot of joy. i love how kids and adults alike can have a shared laugh when viewing his artwork. i love seeing food as everyday people in unexpected places. i love how he has made these art pieces available in all types of ways - original paintings, online comics, plush toys, buttons, books and cards. and i love being a collector of his work.
this kind of whimsical imagination is like a giant magnet to me. i can’t help but put myself right alongside these instantly beloved characters and be part of the gang. i’m thinking i’m an eggplant. or something else purple. maybe a fig?
right now my mr. toast doll is looking at me and winking.
be sure to check out dan’s flickr stream, blog and etsy shop - there is so much quality content that you’ll be quickly immersed! and don’t miss the archive of vintage photos and advertising too!
you can also find select merchandise of dan’s at mahar dry goods.

i am cuckoo for coco puffs about the gorgeous artwork from california artist sarajo frieden. she uses a combination of pencil, gouache, collage, acrylic paint and other media to create her richly vivid illustrations. sarajo’s client include american express, gourmet magazine, the washington post and unicef. she’s also received recognition and awards from american illustration and society of illustrators. you won’t be surprised after you take a peek:

i love her nearly decadent, bejeweled color palette, flowy yet strong lines, nature themes and positive, inviting energy that is coming off these pieces.
i’d also love to see that reading is cool print (made using adobe illustrator) in every library around the world.
check out her blog here and purchase her prints there.

i don’t care that halloween is coming, there is no reason why you couldn’t wear this $49 fleece princess leia wig from california artist ansley as your winter hat. you might could use those hair buns as earmuffs on super cold days if you live near me!

if you squint really hard at it, that hair looks like delicious cinnamon buns.
she’ll be selling these this weekend at the brewery artwalk in los angeles.
find it and other funky handmade things in her etsy shop.

i think this limited edition series of attack! pillow sets from california artist brokesy is a riot. sarah is originally from a heavily wooded area in ontario, and her frequent childhood half mile walks through the canadian forest to get to the school bus (and anxiety of being eaten by bears while doing it) serve as inspiration for her playful appliqued pillow line. she has an mfa in costume design from the california institute of the arts.

grab ‘em before they’re gone at her etsy shop.
