look at this paper fashion collection from uk artist jennifer collier. she has mastered a multitude of techniques, including weaving, stitching and waxing, and has created a group of garments so fascinating to view. carefully crafted from bits of paper, plastic and assorted found objects and materials, these transient and disposable materials are skillfully transformed into items which have distinct and dynamic value.

see more works of art on jennifer’s website. she’s also exhibiting in well thread at the biscuit factory in newcastle from april 25th - june 1st 2008, just in case you’re in the area!

wow — look at this gorgeous collage and embroidered artwork here from maine artist shannon rankin, aka etsy seller selflesh. shannon sees maps as biological networks, time lines and communication methods. she creates her original and limited edition works using this ephemera, thread, paint and more.

these pieces are stunning, precise and very reasonably priced (collection $3 - $150). i especially love the watery lower torso and legs in the body collage.
purchase these pieces and see more sampling at her etsy shop. stop by her flickr stream and blog too!

okay, okay — one more textile post and i’ll give it a rest — but you see how it is with the blogging — you put what you like, right? i just need to mention these awesome maps that are made of cloth, from german designer dewa bleisinger. the easymap’s material is a multipurpose workhorse: it resists the damage, illegibility and aggravation of a folded map, while remaining weatherproof and extending its life span.
roll, crumple or fold it like a towel. stick it in your pocket or wear it as a scarf — however you work it, it’ll still be intact at the end of the day.
this piece will be presented at the tendence lifestyle fair in frankfurt august 24 - 28.
see dewa’s website for other excitement.
