one dollar sketches (yes, one dollar)

you know, i am a big advocate of affordable art, and i’ve been saying lately that if i were to open a gallery or shop it would be filled with a majority of things from $2 on up, if anyone actually made anything pretty, unique or cool that was $2. i am pleased to report that my prices might actually start at a dollar instead, now that i have seen these wee little illustrations from etsy seller onedollarsketch. the mysterious forces behind these creations prefers to remain anonymous, but has revealed that the pieces start out as a traditional drawing and are digitally colored. did i mention that all of them are one dollar each?

i like the simple style and collection of familiar objects here, and how exciting that many, many more of us are able to beautify our surroundings with a little art. let’s give the artist a big hand!

see what else is for sale and say hello right here.

gorgeous helen, gorgeous candlelight

(ed. note: please bear with me and this goofy internet connection in michigan through the holiday and this weekend — when i’m inspired i can’t get online, and then i can’t write the way i normally do because i have trouble uploading photos. it is rather irritating and the posts are coming haphazardly, but at least it’s pretty up here. :))

i just found out that we are going to host a bbq for 70 people from my husband’s work sometime this summer, and i want these supercool gorgeous helen paper shades by the german design collective dekoop for the party really badly. they are simple little pieces of vellum paper that have little printed designs on them. take a wine glass, drop a tealight into it, put the shade on and poof! instant shadowy ambiance.

other excellent applications: setting the mood for the nerve-wracking i’m-cooking-for-my-boyfriend-or-girlfriend-for-the-very-first-time dates, as well as making small spaces a ittle more festive. and if i were a shop owner i’d find a dark corner in my store and light these babies up everyday. it’s probably pretty hard to imagine how lovely they are if they come flat packed and under cellophane.

available in sets of 3 at charles and marie and pedlars.

pansies are cute, but what with this downright chilly weather in chicago i am wondering if i will ever go outside to plant anything ever again. i suppose i wouldn’t feel as bad if i had this idyllic table garden from the fine folks at kikkerland to practice my gardening skills on in the meantime.

don’t you love the little urns and tidy pathways?

it’s $27 and it’s right here, waiting for me you.

(ed. note: welcome first-time readers! if you enjoy this article about terry, please click on the other categories to the left to enjoy even more posts about other talented artists and designers. better yet, feel free to be impulsive and click on subscribe to the right, and i will bring the good stuff to you instead! thank you for visiting!)

i need to show you these very funny little sculpture vignettes from indiana artist terry border. he crafts each piece from food, found objects and wire. i can’t decide if the objects themselves are funnier than the photos, or vice versa.

terry was a commercial photographer before his hobby of making mobiles and other whimsical things out of wire took hold. i’m so glad he’s blended his two expressive art forms.

what a riot!

i think i like “relish life… and death” the most.

check out his blog, see his larger pieces here, and while you’re at it, stop by his etsy shop too!
