hah! i enjoy my designy (window) shopping posts so get ready for a few fun ones. look here at the reproduction rear end of michelangelo’s david, made new again by ramón ubeda and otto canalda, of spain’s abr. this fresh fanny is made of polypropelene and unlike the stone original is apparently quite lightweight.

question: if you wanted a landfill in your living room would you want it in the shape of a chair? if so, your wish can become reality now with the xs chair by california college of the arts design student nick demarco. nick says the production pieces will be made of recycled plastic mesh, and that it can be filled with anything you own in excess, such as these handy vitamin water bottles seen below.

no thank you. and i mean that sincerely.

just as soon as that snow melts, i am going to go outside and emulate this awesome planter by the witty swiss designer stefan stauffacher for eternit (and their us distributor greenform). it’s made of a combination of cement, limestone, fiber and water (called fiber cement), which is a durable, 100% recycled material.

if you are a pet lover you will appreciate this very cool looking dog house from uk born, hong kong-based designer michael young. this chic and cheerful home (with its frame) is 19″w x 35″l x 29.75″h, and is meant for pets under 40 lbs. the raised style helps to protect your precious pooch from the elements, and the polyethylene material ensures that it is durable and easy to clean.

touch sensitive dog lamp

i like this playful dog lamp from propaganda, and think it would be a lot of fun in a kid’s room. come to think of it, it wouldn’t look half bad on my desk either. the lamp is touch sensitive, so every time you pat the dog’s “head” you’re rewarded with adjusted light levels. fun!

one thing: i wish this was made of metal instead of plastic (it would probably get too hot to touch though, so plastic does make sense in this application).

les bébés du monde from petitcollin

look at these beautiful dolls originally manufactured by french company jouets petitcollin, a 19th century corset boning and comb manufacturer. dolls of that era were frequently made of porcelain or papier mache, materials prone to damage. when petit collin began using celluloid as a material for a variety of products, they tried making dolls, and quickly became one of the world’s most renowned doll manufacturers in the early 20th century. now a special collection has been selected and mounted on wood as a keepsake of times past.

i loathe the plastic rings around the close up photos so much i cannot even tell you, but despite this distraction, it sure is an intriguing addition to a collection.

$185 for the set at moss.

holiday ornament swap - #3

ed. note: check out the ornament #3 that my dear friend received - fine minds in cyberspace!

it was with gleeful anticipation that i tore open the padded envelope this weekend to find the third ornament i received in the swap. is this the funniest thing you’ve ever seen or what? better look twice or else you might think it was storebought, like i did!

that’s right, it’s a plastic tree shaped like the air freshener kind you hang from your rear view mirror, but not in that nauseating artificial pine scent - it’s a special swap scent! i am stunned by the meticulous packaging that it came in and my swapper’s precise cutting skills too!

once again, i am soooo glad i am participating in this experience. my creation is seconds away from being completed, so stay tuned - i just hope it’s up to snuff!

thanks michael!
