today i have a terrible internet connection, but am loving the soothing tones and soft layers on this mixed media work from dynamic artist angela petsis. these acrylic and collage pieces represent only a fraction of angela’s formidable work– she also has strong beeswax, polaroid transfer and altered book page collections. i am enjoying the cohesive motifs of so many mysterious tales and romantic, melancholic, even tragic stories, which unfold in front of my eyes the longer i look.

see more of angela’s fabulous work on her website and flickr stream, and purchase select works at her etsy shop.

this color and black and white imagery from california artist eduardo cervantes, aka etsy seller eddyizm, are lavish with light; so lavish, in fact, that i feel guilty and indulgent while looking at them.

purchase these prints here, see more on eduardo’s website and say hi to him on his blog.

these silk charmeuse pillows from designer laura goldstein for grotta and company are so luxe i might have a hard time putting my head on them. but i would give it the good old college try. i love the hand dyed patterns on these pieces, inspired by travels and ephemera from around the world, and the fact that she uses different and complimentary fabrics on the reverse sides — it’s like getting two pillows for the price of one.

see more and purchase these pieces at the artful home.

oh man i am running around like a freak today so this may be the only thing i dash off to you, stupid stupid me clicked private draft on this and it never got published yesterday! so sorry! but i (still) think it’s a good one! behold the lush and magical artwork of australia’s noferin! these richly detailed works come from the minds and imaginations of candy and nicho. they seek to tell us of the colorful tales of carrara island and the pecanpals, some very lovable-looking and bulbous-headed characters who inhabit the mythical island.

boy, am i tempted to pack a suitcase and move to carrara island now…
see candy and nicho’s work in person for a limited time beginning june 20th at gallery 1988 in san francisco, say hello to them on their blog, view their flickr stream and head over to their website to see more and purchase delightful things.

beautiful textures in these acrylic on wood paintings from los angeles-based artist adam normandin. adam is attracted to the beauty and subtle details in things people pass by on a daily basis, and is inspired by old and worn industrial objects. these freight trains are a perfect example. the cars, weathered by non-stop travel for years, possess just the right amounts of unique individuality, rich history and grace that adam seeks to expand on and show us.

see more of adam’s work in a variety of places: gallery 33 east in long beach, george billis in los angeles, and finer things in nashville.
contact adam and view more works online on his website.

i saw this simple and handpainted porcelain and dish set on cribcandy the other day and decided to investigate. such beautiful minimal design! turns out, new york-based artist re jin lee, or rj, is not just a ceramic artist but also a wonderful illustrator. and her strong linework is less minimal and more robust to me. a very fine combination if there ever was one.

see rj at her website or at her etsy and dawanda shops.

look at these fantastic illustrations from brooklyn artist dan-ah kim. these lavishly colored pieces are filled with stories that are distantly familiar, those whose details are fuzzy. i get this strange feeling of wonder (and maybe a little déjà vu) from them — it reaches through and pulls me in to keep me thinking and staring. urban, childhood and earthy narratives abound, so there’s something for everyone here. and it’s all so well done.

dan-ah’s hopes of becoming a ninja never came to fruition, so she became an artist instead. i think i can speak for all of us when i say i’m so glad it didn’t pan out. although it would be great if she did both…
see more fabulosity on dan-ah’s website, see what she has to say on her blog and purchase these pieces at her etsy shop. be sure check out her contribution to the year of the rat show at the giant robot 2 outpost in los angeles, now through april 16th, 2008.
