did you examine her fabrics in these photos? she uses a monoprint technique, which is very labor intensive. the fact that some of her designs have 50 prints on them is a real testament to her commitment and love of her craft.

what an inviting, vivid, thorough collection.

run to her etsy shop and see for yourself!

look at these calming clay sculptures from california artist beth ozarow. beth builds by slab, coil construction, modeling, or molds, and finishes with acrylic paint. her current collection features works of busts and heads, each piece a combination of its own unique character and a projection of her own quiet energy.

beth likes her focus to remain limited with regards to form and color, until her mind naturally shifts to take her down a new pathway. recent additions to this body of work include birds and other allegorical images, which are becoming progressively stronger, and not necessarily dependent on the human forms that began the series. she frequently does not know what character will emerge during the creative process until the final painting, and enjoys being surprised by letting each piece finish itself without a set plan.

this is one stunning measuring cup.

josh_owen_cube_jigger_1

designed by josh owen for kikkerland, this aluminum jigger has different measuring pours on each side and was borne from the challenge of attempting to combine the six most common liquid measures used to mix alcoholic drinks into the smallest possible dispenser.

the form was inspired by traditional box-shaped, Japanese sake cups, from which sake is sipped from the corners.

josh studied at cornell and the rhode island school of design. one look at his playful, freshly original work and it’s no wonder that he’s is recognized as one of the best avant-garde industrial designers in america.

go see his website for more info, and be sure to check out his unbook and knock off lamp.

unica home is expecting these in the late summer, but for $20, get your advance order in now — they might not stay in stock!

california artist caleb siemon first discovered an intense interest in glass blowing at a summer art camp when he was a boy. he decided to pursue his passion and enrolled at the prestigious rhode island school of design. there, he was provided numerous opportunities to study glass blowing around the world — from new zealand to scotland to japan.

after graduating with a bfa, caleb went to venice and apprenticed for master glass sculptor pino signoretto. it was there that he learned the traditional italian ways to craft glass, and developed a strong appreciation for the methodology. he returned to california after several years abroad and opened his own studio, where he frequently invites old world artisans to visit and share their techniques with future artists.

certainly, this combination of contemporary design and centuries old methods is what compels people all over the world to become fans and collectors.
