perhaps you know swedish artist thomas broomé for his low res man sculpture, but i also love what clever pieces he has created here in his modern mantra collection. he is using a liberal amount of the alphabet to create texture, depth and positive/negative space in his clean lined drawings, and takes us on a very funky house tour at the same time.

i love the walk-in closet.

thomas is represented by the galleri magnus karlsson in stockholm. you can see lots more intriguing artwork in a variety of media from thomas on his website too.

italian designer luca nichetto has created some beautiful pieces for clients including salviati and carlo moretti. this undulating neverending bookcase, made of corian and inspired by the pattern a ribbon makes, was a special collaboration with andreoli, a factory specializing in its use.

i view this as more of a room divider or art piece than a bookcase; it would be really hard for me to put anything on the shelves!

see many more of luca’s designs right here.

whiting and davis mesh fabric

i don’t know about you, but whenever i’ve gone to a slightly-cold-but-modern-and-trendy hotel or restaurant, i frequently spot striking 15 foot tall curtains that divide the rooms and really set a sophisticated tone for the joint. they are too cool for school (school being my house in this example) but boy do i love looking at them! these huge swaths of fabric really are not fabric at all, but actually supremely chic metal mesh materials, just like these examples from the massachusetts company whiting and davis. they began making chain mail by hand back in the early 1900’s, and have since developed a machine technique to create large swaths of the stuff for residential, fashion and industrial purposes. the material comes in aluminum, brass, and stainless steel in a rich tones of silver, gold, platinum, and bronze. if your needs are more specific, three of the patterns can be enameled in a pantone color especially for you!

if you’re looking for a way to create drama and glamour in a room, i do believe this will help.

ed note: it’s been a dog’s age since i posted something luxe up in here. it feels pretty good!

farm 21 straw screen

i have a friend with a curvy kohler bathtub who cannot bring herself to put a shower curtain around it for fear of hiding its sculptural lines. this screen from the uk’s farm21 just might change her mind. it has three sections, and is made from laminated rye straw and acrylic.

sasha sykes, the company’s founder, had a desire to bring contemporary furnishings with a rural flavor to fill an underserved niche in the market. most of the organic materials found in the collection come from her family’s farm in county carlow, ireland.

simply gorgeous.

find it and many other lovely pieces at their website.
