agape steel tub - modern rustic

Q: Why does this Vieques tub that looks like it is straight out of 1870’s Deadwood appeal so much to me? I half expect to see some gold miner dude in it, wearing grimy long johns with a back button flap, trying to scrub himself clean while he smokes a cigar.

A: Well, duh - it’s designed by Patricia Urquiola for agape, and she can do no wrong as I have previously mentioned. Love her style. This beast is made of two toned steel and has an optional teak backrest and shelf, which totally make this piece as I see it.

ooh i love these versatile holeystump stools from canada’s thout. these substantial pieces are made from white cedar, which apparently is a weed tree up there. i can think of at least four different places i could use these, whether as side tables or for extra seating.

delightfully rustic!
find them in four colors and three different sizes at design public.

i enjoy pecking around, and wish that i had discovered these gorgeous found barn beam pillars that have been repurposed into some pretty nifty side tables myself, instead of in a catalog — but i’m glad somebody found them!

wood adds so much warmth to a room don’t you think? i love the idea of this mixing into a space with leather and metal - great balance.
purchase the tables and lots of other goodies at viva terra.

i love a shprinkle of vintage in homes with contemporary aesthetics; the combination creates a beautiful layered feeling as you go from room to room, adds texture to the home and frequently sparks conversation. this is why i love these solid hardwood draper’s cabinets in their current application as storage for books, epherema, art, and other odds and ends. each cubby is numbered and designated with a little brass cardholder.

i love the rustic finishing on these pieces, and love the idea that many years ago, skilled craftspeople used cabinets just like these in their daily lives at work. it’s nice to have furniture with a little bit of history, isn’t it?
find small, medium and large versions for a pretty penny at sundance.

boy oh boy do i like this rustic patchwork furniture collection from georgia artist margaret taylor for her company dryads dancing. she incorporates reclaimed barn wood, moldings and bead board to create each one of a kind piece. margaret’s business started out as a hobby and time spent helping her dad with house projects. through this journey of time and experience, the soul and ultimate beauty of the materials she worked with were revealed. now look at what she has created from the fruits of that labor…

it’s got a lot of heart and good energy, doesn’t it? i would love to see any of these pieces in a room sparsely populated with furniture and a neutral color palette on the walls. what a stunning showpiece it would be!
the linear form and ample functionality of these pieces is the cake; a beautiful selection of color palettes to choose from is the cherry on top!
find select pieces of margaret’s marvelous collection at uncommon goods, and be sure to check her website for the full selection!

these little log bowls from canadian artist doha chebib are so delightful. the simple lathe-turned pieces are reminiscent of basic woodworking, and the material naturally prompts quixotic thoughts of the canadian wilderness. they are finished with an acrylic stain, and of course no two are alike.

doha is a member of the loyal loot collective, a smallish group that features the design work of canadian women, both collaboratively and singly, in a variety of media. they strive to create designs with an honest, organic quality to them, so that the end user will derive increasing amounts of sentiment and meaning as time passes.
purchase them at show.

i am visualizing a room at the regent in fiji (which apparently is now the westin denerau) with this bed in it. how apropos that it is named the aitutaki (well, i was pretty close).
made from natural chunky bamboo, a more private sleeping experience can be had with a tug of the breezy curtains hung from the top.
but for those unfortunate bed linens, it looks like a raft you would lazily float down a river on in a dream.
