these silk charmeuse pillows from designer laura goldstein for grotta and company are so luxe i might have a hard time putting my head on them. but i would give it the good old college try. i love the hand dyed patterns on these pieces, inspired by travels and ephemera from around the world, and the fact that she uses different and complimentary fabrics on the reverse sides — it’s like getting two pillows for the price of one.

see more and purchase these pieces at the artful home.

i need to look at these pretty silk hairpins and accessories from florida’s gochemoche. she is a self-described japanese culture-obsessed turkish lady who crafts these little flowers using traditional japanese methods. some pieces are made from material which is dyed by hand, and others are made from repurposed vintage silk kimonos.

these traditional and elaborate hair ornaments were worn by apprentice geisha or maiko, which would instantly indicate their status to those in the know. more experienced geisha did not wear as elaborate an accessory.
i love these colors on a grim winter day.

i love these luxurious home accessories from australian born, singapore based pamela tang. pamela, a former interior designer, takes traditional quilt themes and twists them into fresh and modern cushions, coverlets and more in her sumptuous collection. these contemporary pieces are a reflection of her inspiration from her surroundings and search for accessories to make a living space complete.

what gorgeous things to wake up and see everyday! the finishes and color choices are beautifully executed.
see pamela’s etsy shop and her website for these items and more.

n.b. this is a week long series on methods of transport and how we feel about them, created by a dear friend.
i enjoy elevated, commuter, tgv and other trains for the most part, except maybe when someone unsavory is sitting too close to me. the first long train trip i took was to california, when i was a kid, for summer vacation. i remember we had a sleeper car and the bathroom was tiny and the porter was very helpful. and you never think that you’re going so fast on the high speed trains in europe until another train whizzes by you on the neighboring track, and you nearly get whiplash trying to follow it. good times. i always think of it as an adventure, even on the brown line here in the city.

i love the sculptural quality of the knit work from uk textile artist victoria jackman. it truly is an inspired tactile reminder of the textures and colors in the scottish highlands, with both traditional and handmade flair.
vikki uses a combination of hand techniques on a machine. her carefully chosen wool, silk and cotton yarns complement her natural, uniquely personal themes.
see more styles and purchase them here and there.

there’s a dude in this photo, and i wish i had what he’s wearing in my closet. or at least on my sofa.

i am a sucker for opulence, even if it doesn’t quite fit my lifestyle (and you never know, things can change). the 2007 luxury fabric collection from rubelli really impresses, with shimmering iridescent silks, crisp embroidered cottons and spectacular velvets.

rubelli has a 170 year old history and is based in venice, one of my favorite places in the whole world. they are headquartered in the palazzo corner spinelli on the grand canal, where they have a significant archival collection of ancient fabrics from all over the world (that can be visited by appointment!). they’re not exclusively steeped in history, though — they were the proud designers for some of the fabrics for marie antoinette, the 2006 oscar winner for costume design. each new fabric they create is an outflow of devotion to their philosophy of crafting highly sophisticated fabrics of superior quality, using traditional techniques and cutting edge technology.
see for yourself, and don’t forget to breathe.

i love these sweet little pillows and sachets from french designer estelle billot. estelle grew up in burgundy and studied business in paris. her company, nature et poesie, and the designs she creates are inspired by her french heritage, travels and favorite childhood memories. her distinctive products are accented by french words and poetry.

her poetry is translated into english and is included on a hanging tag on each item.

the poems are so sweet — the one on the dove pillow says, “beautiful as a dream, light as a cloud, a travelling dove, soars in the air so pure, and embellishes the azur…”

i love her delectable color palette and happy, simple shapes. i also love the touch of luxury from the european linen, dupioni silk and french lavender she uses to make her lovely products. any of her pieces would make a truly wonderful gift!
see estelle’s website to find a shop near you.
