Ooh liking this halftone coffee table from the creative minds of Iannone Design for myriad reasons. For one, it’s made of ecofriendly formaldehyde-free bamboo plywood. For two, that’s no veneer or screenprint on the surface of the table. That’s inlaid wood, your choice of maple (on natural bamboo) or walnut (on amber bamboo) to be exact. For three, you can choose a square or rectangle shape in two different heights to fit your room. And for four, they’ve finished the piece with waterbased shellac and a low VOC topcoat. Ahhhhh.

I think their (sustainable) walnut and (renewable) cork mosaic sideboard is pretty boffo too, for equally grand reasons.

Thoughtful and clever, the whole package.
Hop on over to Plushpod to see the table and much more. See Iannone for more cool furniture too.

I think I like the beautiful photography of Brooklyn designer Palo Samko’s wood lighting, sculpture and furniture as much as the magnificent collection itself. Everything is so minimally clean, yet rich and substantial.

Yep, I like it all.

I love how substantial this beautiful wood furniture collection is from Seyhan Özdemir and Sefer Çağlar for Istanbul’s Autoban Design. I especially like their Starfish table. It’s mid-century hip and modern-day organic, taking inspiration from the gentle sea creature that is its namesake.

It isn’t inexpensive, but if you want furniture that will keep in your home for years and years, it’s worth it.
You can find the table at RAY20, and you can see more design excellence at the Autoban website.

look here at this beautiful collection of contemporary furniture from multitalented new york designer john houshmand. his goal is to show what wood really looks like in a style he calls urban organic, which draws from eastern and western cultures for its aesthetic.

aptly put. and the restrained use of metal and glass only serves to expose the beauty of the wood, natural imperfections included, don’t you think?

hear me now and believe me later, beloved readers: i am a nostalgic fool. i have fond and vivid memories of my childhood and the toys and games that were the fabric of my youth. i clicked through all the different scenes in my viewmaster, ate those colored candy dots on those long pieces of paper, made pretty patterns on my lite brite and tried many times in vain to draw circles on my etch-a-sketch (to no avail). and i loved every minute of it. i was just starting to think to myself “they don’t make ‘em like they used to” but changed my mind when i saw the exuberantly fun collection of new york company jellio. they have created a line of unique designs as an homage to certain iconic items from our youth, and their pieces have me grinning from ear to ear whenever i look at them. can you identify what these pieces were modeled after?

what a wonderful way to combine memories of childhood play with modern adult style. and seriously — i’ve got my eye on that button bench.
purchase these items and see more at the jellio website.

hey letterpress fans - check out this fun mod alpha coffee table offered at crate and barrel. it was created by a graphic designer in london after an inspiring trip to a paris flea market by the cb buyers. the glass-protected top is carved from a single piece of shesham wood, has raised letters and sits atop a steel base.

it’s 36″ square x 17″ high, it’s $899 and it’s available right here.

ooh i love these versatile holeystump stools from canada’s thout. these substantial pieces are made from white cedar, which apparently is a weed tree up there. i can think of at least four different places i could use these, whether as side tables or for extra seating.

delightfully rustic!
find them in four colors and three different sizes at design public.
