let’s have a look at some of the terrific designs from norway’s permafrost design studio. i like the retro freshness and playfulness of the whole collection, which to me looks sturdy and substantial as well.

i am especially enjoying the fun and aptly named john deere and silence rugs.
see much more on the permafrost website, and find the rugs at generate.

hah! i enjoy my designy (window) shopping posts so get ready for a few fun ones. look here at the reproduction rear end of michelangelo’s david, made new again by ramón ubeda and otto canalda, of spain’s abr. this fresh fanny is made of polypropelene and unlike the stone original is apparently quite lightweight.

you can purchase the stool in berlin at bcn. the red version is a special edition and you can find it over at the conran shop.

i love the rich and humorous mixed media collection from georgia artist erin smith. these printed giclee collages are crafted from a combination of acrylic, watercolor, inks, paper, found objects and digital media. the folks in the vintage photographs are her relatives, and the witty prose of course is her own.

this may come as a surprise to some of you but the feeling of being on edge comes quite naturally to me. i think these pieces are an almost perfect reflection of some of my innermost thoughts. do they reflect your thoughts too?
find erin’s collection at uncommon goods and mud and metal, and be sure to visit erin at her website too.

look at this witty and gently surreal dear deer wall piece. simply place branches in the holes of the wooden plaque to achieve the same effect (sort of) as a majestic chopped head of the real thing! it’s created by austrian designer bernhard grafl for walking chair design studio and comes in solid oak in your choice of light or dark stain.

i bucked the deer trend (!) that continues to remain quite popular, but actually this is one of the most clever interpretations i have seen. and to be frank, this appeals to me much more than a big ol’ head hanging on a wall.
purchase the dear deer for € 25(about us $39) right here.

okay, i will hang up the lighting now by signing off with these terrific ceiling fixtures from uk designer jake phipps for the hidden art collective. beautifully structured hats lined with decadent gold or silver that have people names are right up my alley! jeeves is the bowler and wooster is the top hat. i love the idea of taking a classically styled item steeped in tradition and turning it on its ear by utilizing it in a new creative, functional way. i would call these guys whimsical but i think that word gets a bad rap, so how about deliciously surprising? humorously stylish? playfully bold? i can’t decide. maybe all of the above.

i totally want to play monopoly at a table with the triple top hats hanging overhead.
purchase these lights and many more inventive things at the hidden art shop.

do you think the dinner table ever feels lonely in this age of fast moving lifestyles, only used for holidays and special occasions? sprucing it up with this clever messy tablecloth from poland’s aze designs might make it feel like a more important part of the family. the folks at aze strive to create modern home designs that embrace and incorporate old world traditional techniques, like embroidery and weaving.

and just in case your bed feels lonely, here are some rem bed linens along the same premise:

oh! and i like their funky cotton rugs too!

select pieces from aze are available at zoom zoom, but i don’t have a clue if they ship overseas or not (sorry no polish language!). best move? aze’s website.

i try not to write about things that i’ve seen in 4+ or more blogs that i read regularly, because i think if i’ve seen them that many times, so have you! however, i can’t pass up these funny prints from uk artist linzie hunter - a spin on spam so to speak.

what a riot!
find these prints at thumbtack press, and be sure to see linzie’s terrific portfolio on her website too!

beautiful, beautiful things from dutch-born, french-based industrial design wonder tord boontje: the die cut, hand loomed little field of flowers rug for nani marquina, and the vinyl wall decal (actually seven individual panels).

$4000 and $7000, respectively. but oh so fabulous.
purchase the rug at design within reach, and the wallcovering at velocity.
