urban lamp by david raine
Oh how I love the juxtaposition of materials in this sculptural Urban lamp from UK artist David Raine for his company alkamie.biz. It has a wonderfully non-tippy base of concrete with perspex insert, and is topped with a stunning, shredded (and fire-resistant) silk shade.
David also offers his beautiful, organically-shaped lampshades separately.
To me this is like wearing a fancy sweater with a plain skirt — it’s special and very stylish without being too overdone.
Purchase the lamp and shades at the Hidden Art shop and see more from David on his website.

elizabeth prince ceramics
let’s have a look at the beautiful ceramic designs from uk artist elizabeth prince. in a previous life, elizabeth was a fine artist and a popular interior designer. her stolen moments in between commissions were spent working in clay, and as time passed she decided to make it her full time focus. i’m so glad she did, because these hand stamped, glazed, pierced and pinched results are fantastic.
purchase these pieces at elizabeth’s etsy shop and drop by her blog to see what else she’s doing!
mariposa pendant light by la murrina
i think this very pretty mariposa ceiling fixture by marco piva for italy’s la murrina would add a colorful sculptural element to a neutral room. it is crafted of butterfly wing-styled murano glass discs (hence the name) and reminds me of capiz shell lamps, but it’s a bit more substantial.
this piece can be ordered in a few different sizes with black, red or white disc combinations. see it and much more from la murrina right here.

dear ingo lamp by ron gilad
look at this kooky dear ingo lamp by ron gilad for moooi. a seeming tribute to equally imaginative german lighting designer ingo maurer, the versatile piece features 16 separate metal task lamps which can be aimed in myriad different directions.
this fixture really reminds me of that one villain in spiderman 2, and why the heck can’t i remember that guy’s name now? was it alfred molina? doc oc? hmmmmph.
anyway, it’s available at unica home — price on request.
