michelle stitzlein sculpture
whoa! found object artist extraordinaire paula tipped me off to these supercool moth series of wall sculptures, made from repurposed objects by ohio artist michelle stitzlein. these pieces are cobbled together in the most pristine way from old piano keys, tin cans, license plates and bicycle tires, among other things.
see more on michelle’s website and also right here.
urban lamp by david raine
Oh how I love the juxtaposition of materials in this sculptural Urban lamp from UK artist David Raine for his company alkamie.biz. It has a wonderfully non-tippy base of concrete with perspex insert, and is topped with a stunning, shredded (and fire-resistant) silk shade.
David also offers his beautiful, organically-shaped lampshades separately.
To me this is like wearing a fancy sweater with a plain skirt — it’s special and very stylish without being too overdone.
Purchase the lamp and shades at the Hidden Art shop and see more from David on his website.
ceramic urban gnomes by vitamin
London design house Vitamin has created a whole new way of dressing your modern garden with these urban gnomes. Made from bone china, they don’t possess the cheezy kitch the ubiquitous plastic kind has. They are much more sculptural and contemporary, which is either a relief or rather alarming, depending on your point of view…
These pieces if left in a leafy green garden will absolutely light up the night. I say two thumbs up.
Find the gnomes at Generate, and see more of Vitamin’s products on their website.
josh jakus eggflat containers
These egg crate shaped felt accessories from San Francisco designer Josh Jakus are fun, aren’t they? Called Eggflats, the sculptural containers come in small and large sizes, can interconnect, fold flat for storage and can be used to hold all sorts of things.
Purchase these pieces at Elsewares and see more from Josh right here.

landscape teapot
ooh i like the sculptural intricate curves on the handle and lid of this landscape teapot from most excellent designer patricia urquiola for rosenthal. i enjoy her designs a lot.
it’s $269 and it’s at moss by special order.
cloud chair by lisa widén
i think i need this puffy cloud chair by lisa widén for opportunistic cat naps. i love the sculpted sides and funky metal feet.
i haven’t been able to sleep for several weeks now, and despite this the blog is still running pretty smoothly. maybe it is more efficient than usual because i am a shut in, rehabbing my dog, who is almost able to stand up and walk by himself, and not able to leave my house because of it?
i don’t know, but i’m thinking if this came with a cumulus ottoman i would be all set.
see more work from lisa on her website and find the chair at design house stockholm.

mariposa pendant light by la murrina
i think this very pretty mariposa ceiling fixture by marco piva for italy’s la murrina would add a colorful sculptural element to a neutral room. it is crafted of butterfly wing-styled murano glass discs (hence the name) and reminds me of capiz shell lamps, but it’s a bit more substantial.
this piece can be ordered in a few different sizes with black, red or white disc combinations. see it and much more from la murrina right here.
